Our story
Barcelona Tavern has always been more than a restaurant. We are a meeting place and social anchor where guests come for good food, connection, warmth, and the energy of a room full of people who feel like they belong. When Barcelona first opened downtown, it became a local favourite by bringing Mediterranean flavours together with Calgary’s spirit in an approachable, communal way.We have returned to our original location on 8th Avenue SW, and this comeback is about more than reopening. We are rebuilding with a deeper respect for local sourcing, a stronger connection to Calgary’s food culture, and a renewed commitment to atmosphere and hospitality. Our food is rooted in Mediterranean inspiration and shaped by Alberta ingredients, with tapas and paella designed for sharing in a warm, inviting space.

TimMenu was very appealing. Lots of choice. Food in general was also very good. The Cajun chicken sandwich, while not perfect, was a solid 4. Service was a touch scattered, specifically drinks, they would bring you another one, but it was wring. They would replace it without issue. This issue is likely the result of the extremely noisy restaurant, very loud. Hard to have a conversation and yours raising your voice as if you’re at I guess a tavern. If expected not a big deal, but hard to have certain kinds of meetings as a result so plan accordingly.

JG MWe came here for Valentine's Day, and it was our first visit. Jalia was our server. The ambiance and vibe inside was relaxed and modern. The service we got from Jalia was first-class. Our food was epic, especially the baked brie appetizer. Churros for dessert! Easily 5 stars. And, they have a delicious mocktail menu to top it all off. This was a great choice for our romantic dinner, and we couldn't be happier!
Sephria AmoA friend and I visited Calgary for a weekend and randomly stumbled across Barcelona Tavern. We ordered the truffle pasta with meatballs (8/10) and the shrimp and steak paella (7.5/10). The steak was 10/10 - amazingly seasoned and cooked. The rice was a bit mushy but did taste good. The shrimp could have been better seasoned.We shared the calamari as our appetizer. The serving was smaller than expected and we thought it was a bit over priced. We dined in at around 4pm on a Friday and service was quite slow. They did state that there recently opened the restaurant which may explain the delay in service throughout our stay.Overall, the food was okay, nothing super special. We would not go out of our way to come back (when we are back in Calgary) but we did enjoy our meal after a long day of t

Shared a quick lunch with coworkers. Although no reservations for the busy spot, our party of 4 was accommodated quickly and efficiently. The servers were patient, helpful and worked as a team to make for an enjoyable dinning experience. Overall an incredible experience
